Afternoon Shadows
The summer sun on a late afternoon can create beautiful shadows and atmospheric effects. The buildings lined up along the road were perfectly bathed in the golden afterglow of the day. This scene was well suited for rendering in pastel. I was very pleased to be neither a minute too soon nor a minute too late to capture the essence of such a lovely image.

Nightlight (original Framed Pastel)
Nightlight was created as a result of a nocturne painting assignment. Late one summer evening I came upon this scene along a cottage lakefront road. The street lamp took center stage by flooding the road, trees and white fence with soft light. I could not resist the quiet shapes and beautiful shadows of that lovely summer evening.

Slow Rolling on the Chittenango
Toward the end of summer Mother Nature seems to slow down. The creek just above Chittenango Falls ambled along at a slow but peaceful pace reminding me that each season has its own way of doing things. I hope you feel some of this peace as you view Slow Rolling on the Chittenango.

River Glow
The image for River Glow was captured at the end of a day of winter fly fishing. The setting sun filtering through the trees and spilling out on to the stream lined with snow and ice pulled me away from the world of fishing and placed me happily into the world of landscape painting.

Autumn Reflection
A drive in Up-State New York can yield many landscape treasures especially in autumn. On this particular excursion the sky was overcast, but the unmistaken feel of autumn was in the air and fall colors were just emerging. I could not resist the challenge of painting the autumn reflections that Mother Nature put on display that day.

Big Alligator Juniper
On a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico I became attracted to Alligator Juniper trees found throughout the state. Each juniper reminded me of a beautiful, giant bonsai tree, and each tree seemed to say, “Respect me for I am strong, and I am a survivor”. My goal in this painting was to convey the strength and beauty of these trees.

Blue Lattice
Winter offers many painting opportunities for landscape painters. The intricate pattern of blue shadows immediately caught my attention. The snow sparkled, and the cloud pattern sealed the deal. I had no choice but to paint this beckoning winter scene.

Queen Ann's Barn
The barn, silo and setting for this painting have a dream like or fantasy quality. The abundant growth of Queen Ann’s Lace, standing guard, in the foreground gives this painting its name. Art has the power to transport us to another place and dream a little.

Silver Afternoon
During mid-summer I came upon this lake scene at Otisco Lake in Upstate NY. It was one of those special afternoons where the sun, clouds and water reflections gave a beautiful silver glow to everything. I hope you can see and feel the silver glow of the atmosphere in this painting.
